About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, often in the form of short talks delivered by leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED Conferences, intimate TED Salons and thousands of independently organised TEDx events around the world. Videos of these talks are made available, free, on TED.com and other platforms. Audio versions of TED Talks are published to TED Talks Daily, available on all podcast platforms.
TED's open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; TEDx, which licenses thousands of individuals and groups to host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities; The Audacious Project, which surfaces and funds critical ideas that have the potential to impact millions of lives; TED Translators Program, which crowdsources the subtitling of TED Talks so that big ideas can spread across languages and borders; and the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED also offers TED@Work a program that reimagines TED Talks for workplace learning. TED also has a growing library of original podcasts, including The TED Interview with Chris Anderson, WorkLife with Adam Grant, Far Flung with Saleem Reshamwala and How to Be a Better Human.
About TEDx, x = independently organised event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.) Find out more here.
About TEDxQUT
TEDxQUT is an independently organised event created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading". Started in 2013, TEDxQUT is an annual event featuring a line up of live speakers, who share diverse and unique ideas in the form of short, powerful talks. The TEDxQUT program sits under the Student Engagement portfolio at QUT, where the student voice and experience is at the forefront of our community engagement.
Despite our academic setting, TEDxQUT is not limited to talks or perspectives on work, academia and research. QUT is a conduit for the TED platform, and we welcome voices from all members of our community regardless of backgrounds, levels of study, and age.
At QUT, a place of learning and teaching, we know our community are consistently challenging existing ways of thinking and creating new ones every day. We aim to create spaces for the propagation of these great ideas, for storytelling, creativity and innovation. This opportunity to share and engage inspires our community to take part in transformative conversations and be part of solutions to make a positive change in our world.
We acknowledge that all voices and perspectives are important in ensuring the sharing and propagating of change and conversation.
What is a Salon?
In 2022, we introduced the TEDxQUTSalon Series; events run in addition to our annual conference. Salons are smaller events that keep our TEDxQUT community engaged in between our annual conference, and bring a focus on attendees as active participants of the events. The Salons bring attendees together in a more intimate environment, intended to stimulate active discussion.
These events are a 2 hour deep dive into a particular area of interest, and are delivered using a range of structures, from panels to hands-on activities. We have explored topics including First Nations Understanding of Country, Sexual Relationships, Tea, and Art. We are excited to explore more in the years to come.
TEDxQUT uses this opportunity to collaborate with the QUT and wider Brisbane/Meanjin community.
