Protecting children is everybody’s business
Bob Lonne (PhD) has extensive experience as a social worker in various child protection roles in Australia. He commenced his PhD in the early 1990s and researched the factors affecting the recruitment and retention of rural social workers, as well as the process of personal and professional adjustment they experienced when relocating to take up a position in a rural community.
Professor Lonne is passionate about the safety and wellbeing of children and families, and is involved in studying the outcomes and efficacy of contemporary child protection systems and practice.
With Nigel Parton, Jane Thomson and Maria Harries, he co-authored Reforming Child Protection and has researched, written and consulted about the systemic issues confronting our approaches to protecting children nationally and internationally. In 2008, he was appointed as the foundation Chair at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane Australia, and was the National President of the Australian Association of Social Workers from 2005 to 2011.
