Robotics in the real world

Past holiday program

Visit The Cube these schools holidays to learn about Robotics in the real world.

Explore the research QUT is undertaking in Robotics with ARM Hub (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing) and keep children entertained with The Cube’s interactive projects Robot Factory and Code-A-Bot. Children can also test their driving skills with the Sphero obstacle course.

We encourage you to visit our COVIDSafe guidelines before your visit.

Places are limited and bookings (for parents/carers and children) are essential. Parental supervision is required at all times.

Panda Manipulation Demonstrator

QUT Centre for Robotics | Australian Centre for Robotic Vision leads the world in the new discipline of robotic vision, applying computer vision to robotics. While robotics is about machines that interact with the physical world, computer vision is about analysing and understanding the world through images. Robotic Vision expands the capabilities of robots, allowing them to see and understand the world in which they are working.

In the Panda Manipulation Demonstrator activity, you can learn how robots use computer vision to identify and interact with real world objects. The Panda Manipulation Demonstrator is a QUT research project and will identify and manipulate a number of real-world objects by picking up a user selected object from a container and placing it into another container – it can even drop items into your open hand!

Kids playing code-a-bot

Code-A-Bot

Our recycling robots are slow and inefficient. We need your help to recode our robots and turn DERP (Department of Environmental Resource Processing) into a recycling plant for the future!

Code-A-Bot is an interactive digital game putting you in charge of programming robot workers to collect and sort rubbish, improving the overall efficiency of a waste recycling plant. Using The Cube's digital touch screens, robots can be coded to move, sense, and collect or distribute rubbish around the facility and into the correct bins.

Robot Factory

Build your own unique robot using spare parts from the factory: there are millions of combinations to explore! Then, launch your robot into space and watch as it floats into zero gravity – can you spot yours?

Child with Sphero robot

Mini Sphero Obstacle Course

Test your Sphero driving skills on this space themed mini obstacle course!

In this hands-on activity, children and families will be introduced to the basics of robotics using Sphero. Navigate Sphero through a range of space themed obstacles and make your way through the course.

Please BYO device (smart phone or tablet) for this activity. Before you arrive at The Cube, please download the Sphero Edu app to your device.
