Optometry
We provide full eye examinations, including advanced technology to detect eye diseases, with specialist clinical services for children and individuals. Our clients and the public have access to a large range of spectacle frames, lenses and contact lenses through our dispensing service.
Optometry and Vision Science students work in the clinic under the supervision of qualified and therapeutically endorsed optometrists.

- myopia control including atropine treatment
- retinal and anterior eye imaging including ocular photography and optical coherence tomography

As well as general optometry services, a range of specialist eye care services are available.
Paediatric
We offer comprehensive optometric services to paediatric patients who are 16 years and younger. Our wide range of equipment tests for conditions affecting vision, eye alignment and focussing, depth perception, visual information processing and ocular health. Patients receive a comprehensive examination, including a cycloplegic refraction to determine the most appropriate management plan. Treatment options may include spectacles, vision therapy and lifestyle changes.
Vision rehabilitation
We provide a comprehensive service in our Vision Rehabilitation Centre for people with vision impairment. We offer access to a range of optical and digital magnification devices.
Myopia
We provide specialty care for patients with a high risk of progressively worsening myopia (short-sightedness). Our wide range of specialist testing equipment facilitate comprehensive monitoring of any myopia progression, and determination of personalised treatment plans. Treatment options that slow or halt further myopia progression include orthokeratology, topical medications (atropine), specialty contact lens, spectacles and lifestyle changes.
Therapeutics
We offer diagnostic and treatment services for acute sore or painful red eyes including conjunctivitis, keratitis and iritis/uveitis. In addition we manage chronic or recurrent eye problems such as dry eye disease, eye allergies, watery eyes, blepharitis and post-operative concerns.
We also provide a comprehensive examination for the screening, diagnosis and management of glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.
Contact lenses
We also offer a full range of contact lens clinical care, including soft and rigid contact lenses for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia, with state-of-the-art instrumentation. Specialist areas of contact lens practice include orthokeratology, keratoconus, and scleral lenses.
Courtenay Lind - Clinic Coordinator

(cello); Masters of Performance (cello); Australian Academy of Music performance program, Bachelor of Applied Science (Optometry), Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics, QCH Paediatric Optometry Alignment Program, ACO Certificate of Public Health and Leadership in Eye Care.Courtenay Lind currently enjoys working as Clinic Coordinator at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Health Clinics Optometry Clinic. In addition to this she has enjoyed supervising Master of Optometry students across all clinical specialities, but most notably in paediatrics, for almost a decade. She has spent time as a practicing optometrist in many settings including specialty paediatric private practice and screening clinics, various fast-paced corporate optometry companies, several ophthalmology specialty clinics and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander shared care hospital settings. Courtenay advocates interdisciplinary collaboration and inter-professional learning and strongly believes in the further education of optometrists in order to impart a high level of care and compassion to those patients within the disability sector.
Alongside her optometry career, Courtenay has Bachelor and Masters degrees in music performance. She has studied at the National Academy of Music and is a current Australian Music Examinations Board cello examiner. She runs a long term successful private teaching studio, where her passion for working with children is again realised. She routinely adjudicates and performs in various chamber music settings across Brisbane, as well as enjoying seasonal orchestral work.
Shelley Hopkins - Paediatrics and Indigenous Outreach

Dr Shelley Hopkins is a lecturer in the School of Optometry and Vision Science, and is the Paediatric and Indigenous Outreach Supervisor within QHC. Her research is in the area of children’s vision. In 2017, Dr Hopkins was a recipient of both a Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence (Mixed Research Team – Children’s Vision Team) and a Vice Chancellor’s Performance Award (Team – Optometry Clinic Outreach Team). Dr Hopkins is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Our comprehensive services are provided by QUT students, under the supervision of accredited clinicians with significant practical experience. Our fees contribute to the costs of running the clinics and are very competitive—well under what you would expect to pay in private practice. Services provided by students are not covered by Medicare or private health insurance.

The Contact Lens Clinic offers a full range of contact lens clinical care, including soft and rigid contact lenses for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. Specialist areas of contact lens practice are also provided including orthokeratology, keratoconus, and scleral lenses. The clinic is also equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for contact lens patient care.
The Optometry Therapeutics Clinic offers rapid access diagnostic and treatment services for acute sore or painful red eyes (including conjunctivitis, keratitis, iritis/uveitis) and diagnosis and management of chronic or recurrent eye irritation problems such as dry eye disease, eye allergies, watery eyes and blepharitis and post-operative concerns. There are opportunities for clinic patients to access new treatments for chronic eye irritation through our ongoing clinical research projects.
The clinic also provides screening, diagnostic, management and review services for other chronic eye disease problems such glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease using a comprehensive range of current technologies and imaging devices.
Community optometrists, general practitioners and ophthalmologists are welcome to refer their patients to this no cost service. The experienced, therapeutically endorsed clinicians supervising this service work closely with ophthalmologists and general practitioners in the provision of high quality co-managed therapeutic eyecare.
